SECTOR PREPARATION

Construction tender support

Construction bid preparation starts with the defined works, the delivery programme and the roles your business is actually proposing. Evidence should demonstrate relevant experience and a practicable approach. Tender-writing support does not replace engineering design, quantity surveying or the responsible contractor technical decisions.

Start with the actual tender

  1. Read the works scope, programme constraints and contract documents together.

  2. Select experience matching the proposed work rather than only project value.

  3. Map your role and specialist supply-chain responsibilities.

  4. Ask technical owners to confirm methods, resources and dependencies.

  5. Connect programme statements to evidence and approval before drafting.

Describe the role you will perform

HSE contractor guidance describes planning, managing and monitoring construction work and coordination where several contractors are involved. Identify the role applicable to the actual project. Do not infer that a bid-writing service takes on a statutory construction role.

Programme logic before polished dates

Record access, design information, procurement lead times and client decisions as dependencies. A schedule with every task starting immediately can conceal an impossible sequence. Keep costing and technical sign-off with the appropriate professionals; unconfirmed drawings are not final delivery instructions.

Construction evidence readiness worksheet

Use one record for each relevant item. Keep unknowns and approvals visible rather than filling them with assumptions.

Fictional worked example

Fictional teaching example: a refurbishment programme depends on client-approved drawings before ordering a component. Show that approval as a predecessor and identify the contingency. A previous project photograph supports what was delivered only when dates, scope and permission are established; it does not certify the new design.

No real customer, live opportunity or contract outcome is described. Do not submit this example as your own evidence.

Common mistakes

  • Borrowing another contractor role or project outcome.
  • Presenting a draft programme as an unconditional completion commitment.
  • Asking a writing reviewer to certify technical suitability.

Questions about this guide

Can tender support price the works?

Commercial pricing and cost assumptions remain with your business and its qualified advisers. They are not included by default in evidence mapping or narrative drafting.

Which previous projects should I use?

Choose relevant work you actually delivered, showing your scope, dates and attributable outcomes. Obtain permission before identifying a client.

Must every construction bid use the same evidence?

No. The works, role, jurisdiction and buyer requirements control the evidence required. The worksheet is an organising aid, not a universal qualification rule.
